CC/MCC: Tools for Capturing Accurate Clinical Documentation

Presented on:
Thursday, May 5, 2016
1:00–2:30 p.m. Eastern

Presented by:
Adriane K. Martin, DO, FACOS

Sponsored By
Association for Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists (ACDIS)

One of the core daily competencies of a clinical documentation improvement (CDI) specialist is to identify the clinical indicators needed to qualify a diagnosis as a complication/comorbidity (CC) or a major CC (MCC). New coders and CDI specialists often struggle to pinpoint the top opportunities, and with shifts in ICD-10-CM/PCS, the task can seem even more daunting.

This program will provide a detailed look at targeted CC/MCC areas and highlight opportunities for improvement. Expert speaker Adriane K. Martin, DO, FACOS, will review the principles related to CC/MCC assignment, help listeners understand what clinical elements drive a particular condition to a DRG, delve into specific clinical conditions for difficult diagnoses, and identify emerging areas of concern related to ICD-10-CM/PCS.

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the difference between a principal and secondary diagnosis
  • Identify the components that make a condition a CC or MCC
  • Explain how documentation affects MS-DRG assignment

Price: $259
