We know we’re not the only ones feeling tuckered out this week, what with the Trying Times and all. Our work—and the work of service people across the country—is often to provide comfort in the form of a hot meal or a cold drink, and we take the responsibility to create a safe and positive space in moments when emotions are running high seriously. We want you to take care of yourself, by spending the evening out with a friend or treating yourself to a quiet lunch, or having your favorite meal delivered, and we want to be one of the many spaces in which our neighbors and communities find the strength to practice kindness and patience. These days are important, and what you do with them matters. Be good to the people you see and the people you don’t. We are staying open through our normal hours this week, and through the exhaustion and uncertainty that waits in the next few weeks (and months, and years), you’ll know where to find us. Our Lakeview and Logan Square dining rooms are big enough for everyone. ❤️
For folks in need of support, we want to call out a few resources hard-working local communities have been preparing, including therapy groups at @center_on_halsted and @howardbrownhealth. If you have a little extra love to go around, some staff-favorite businesses to visit are @nabalacafe, @octobercafechicago, @fancyplantscafe, and @quesadillareina.
We hope your winter is brighter than you expect and that your holidays provide all the warmth and community you need.
Hugs to you and yours,
—Mickey, Jo, Michael and the Chicago Diner team
