Health officials were becoming increasingly concerned about the dangers of sun exposure on this day in 1990 and a warning was given to Canberrans urging them to protect themselves from damaging skin cancers. Hot weather was drawing people out into the sun, many wearing the minimum amount of protective clothing and some without sunscreen, soaking up the heat and ultra-violet rays.
