Rising and shining: Housebound Spaniards work out together Being stuck indoors can be brutally boring and claustrophobic. Add social distancing and the issue is amplified. But humans are resilient and the locked-down residents of cities like Barcelona in Spain have come up with new ways to exercise and interact that don’t break quarantine. All over social media, Spaniards have been uploading videos of their daily lives in lockdown. And they’re showing scenes of hope, rather than despair. In some videos, entire neighborhoods are on their balconies doing jumping jacks and aerobics together. In others, teenagers lean out of windows with ping pong paddles and play ball over seven-story drops. And who can forget the classic neighborhood-wide songs that echo through the empty streets? It might be a tough few months under lockdown, but we must remember that none of us are alone in this effort. Anyone for balcony tennis? It’s inspiring to see this kind of bravery and spirit in the face of a crisis.
