| | | | KEY FIGURE OF THE DAY: 1 | Christophe Laporte won stage 19 of the 2022 Tour de France, ensuring that France won't go to Paris empty-handed! As in 2016, it was on stage 19 that France could breathe. Six years ago, Romain Bardet grabbed the first french stage win on the climb of Le Bettex, two days before the finish on the Champs-Elysées. 1926 and 1999 will therefore remain the only two editions of the Tour de France without a French success. Before his victory, second place was Laporte's best result, in Pau on stage 18 of the 2018 Tour, beaten in a sprint by Arnaud Démare. In 2021, he finished second on stage 19, behind Matej Mohoric in Libourne. | | |
