Are life habits running over you? Some tips for managing your own pressures
We could all use some help to manage life's anxieties, and it’s worth considering some key changes to habits and lifestyle that would be beneficial to anyone. Something as simple as turning off all email notifications - you'll be surprised at how much difference to your mood without hearing those tension-inducing “pings”. Extra-busy people who routinely set alarms could consider scheduling reminders to simply take breaks and eat – often overlooked but essential points of the day, as busy people tend to get lost within a hectic schedule, especially when managing stressful endeavors such as taking care of elderly parents, young children and work obligations.
Beyond that, combating everyday fatigue with exercise lets people release the stress they hold in their bodies; Consider yoga (or a similar activity of choice) for injecting some calm into all areas of life. Many general fitness recommendations suggest a 20-minute exercise routine is best (and indeed, for some that works), but if you have neither the time or energy, remove the 20 minute obligation and start with something that lasts even 5 or 10 minutes - the results can be amazing, and provides a foundation to build on: No pressure, only rewards.
Dealing with the stresses of being consumed with being busy means setting clear limits and boundaries with your time - differentiating between what’s within your control, and what’s outside it. By making an effort to put things in perspective, you can clearly assess when you've done everything you could to prevent an adverse outcome; at that point, you'll find yourself more able and willing to let things go.
Making a point to prioritize our own mental health and stability, considering healthy choices for diet and exercise, taking the time to relax - all of these are key to being there for those who rely on you.
