Fiverr Acquires Creative Talent Site Working Not Working

Here's an acquisition that both makes total sense and seems completely bananas: Fiverr now owns the creative freelancer network Working Not Working.

Clearly flush with cash (or at least investor dollars), as illustrated by its ability to run a Super Bowl ad, Fiverr has become the biggest global player in the gig economy. So it's not surprising that it would be able to pick up an established network like Working Not Working, which offers access to tens of thousands of creative talents.

Just don't expect the move to be met with anything near universal acclaim.

Literally every response to our tweet about the news was negative, with comments like "RIP WNW" and a gif of what appears to be a marionette vomiting profusely.

Although Working Not Working says it will continue to operate as a standalone company, it's clear that there's going to be a far greater sense of skepticism about the platform among its core creatives, who generally operate at a higher tier than the talent Fiverr is known for.

Working Not Working remains free for the creatives who participate (with companies paying fees to access the talent), so I suppose it's not a real sacrifice to try sticking with it. But don't be surprised if you starting hearing more buzz from competing talent networks looking to pick up Fiverr's doubters.

What's your take on the purchase? Have you ever used either service? I'd love to hear your experiences (off or on the record) at the email below, or  at @Griner on Twitter.
