Flight data gives clues about deadly BRPD helicopter crash

Ever since a Baton Rouge Police helicopter crashed Sunday, fellow pilots and friends of the two officers who died have had a burning question: How did the helicopter end up low enough for its tail rotor to clip a tree? 

There's no way the experienced pilots were intentionally flying so close to the ground, they thought. Something else had to happen.

Flight data from the helicopter seems to back up that idea. Here's what we can learn from it. 


When federal regulators announced they were hitting a Louisiana alumina plant with 36 new health and safety citations, we started digging.

It turns out, the plant racked up 370 citations in two years. Here's what we found. 


Denham Springs High School abruptly canceled classes for today after numerous teachers said they were going to be absent.

It appears to be a response to Saturday, when voters rejected a tax that would have paid for raising teacher salaries, which are lower than many other schools in the region.
