Focus on fascia

Dear Yogi,

You may have noticed that the fascia is getting more and more focus in yoga classes, and for good reason!

Working with the fascia — an intricate web of connective tissue weaving through our entire body —  helps to maintain flexibility and range of motion in our muscles and joints, release tension and reduce pain, improve blood circulation and prevent injuries.

But that’s not all, according to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the fascia facilitates the flow of energy or “Chi” in the body and by stimulating the fascia, we can potentially release emotional stress and energetic blockages.

Whether you’re intrigued by the physical benefits or the more spiritual benefits, fascial work is really worthwhile exploring… below some tips on how.

“This has helped me massively, Julie. Two days ago, I had a contracture on the upper back and neck, only on the right side. it felt like the whole trapezius was tightened, from the base of my skull to the midback. I had to take painkillers, it was unbearable. Today, I tried this class and I feel more mobile now, and my headache has lifted a little. There's still pain but it feels like "release" pain more than whiplash pain. Thank you!”
