Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

President Trump has consistently focused on delivering for the American people by appointing nominees who prioritize the nation's economic growth, security, and conservative values. The thorough review and swift confirmation of Trump’s nominees by Senate Republicans plays a crucial role in ensuring the administration’s policy agenda moves forward without significant delays. I am proud of our work in ensuring that these appointments reflect the values and priorities of the American people!

Redirecting Funds to Safeguard Sovereign Borders

I recently reintroduced my Securing Our Borders Act, which redirects all unobligated Democrat-allocated funding from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) enforcement account to bolster the integrity of our southern border. Without borders, a nation is not a nation. President Biden’s ill-advised decision to supercharge the IRS while we had a crisis on our southern border could not have been more out-of-touch or unnecessary. By redirecting these funds, we are taking steps to protect our national sovereignty and keep Americans safe.

Ensuring Our Economy and Financial Regulation Promotes Opportunity for Hardworking Americans

At Tuesday’s Senate Banking Committee hearing on the Semiannual Monetary Policy Report to Congress, I pressed Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell on the importance of rightsizing rules and regulations – including reproposing the Basel III Endgame – to protect access to financial opportunity and security.

I also highlighted the importance of the Federal Reserve avoiding political priorities and focusing on building an economy that works for all Americans. In my opening statement, I called our financial regulators who abused their power and forced institutions to debank federally legal businesses and law-abiding citizens.

Introducing the Antisemitism Awareness Act

Antisemitism has no place in our schools or our society. I was joined by Senator Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) and 38 of our Senate colleagues in introducing my Antisemitism Awareness Act, which directs the Department of Education to use the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) definition of antisemitism when investigating antisemitic acts on campus. It’s critical the Department of Education has the tools and resources it needs to investigate antisemitism and root out this vile hatred wherever it rears its ugly head. There can be no equivocating when it comes to the issue of anti-Jewish violence and harassment.

Easing Burdens on Small Businesses

As the chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, I introduced my Protect Small Businesses from Excessive Paperwork Act of 2025, commonsense legislation to ease burdens and shield small businesses from excessive legal red tape. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and we need to ensure they have the necessary time and information to comply with reporting requirements from the federal government. This legislation will ensure small businesses are protected and not overly burdened by unclear and unnecessarily complicated regulations – allowing them to focus on serving their customers while following the law.

Applauding Committee Passage of Disaster Loan Account Accountability Legislation

After hearing from hundreds of South Carolina businesses in the wake of Hurricane Helene, I introduced the SBA Disaster Transparency Act. I’m pleased to share that this week, the bill successfully passed out of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee, marking a significant step forward in providing essential resources to communities in need. We are one step closer to ensuring that those affected by natural disasters have the tools they need to rebuild their lives.

Introducing Trump Dept. of Education Nominee Linda McMahon

I was thrilled to introduce Linda McMahon, President Trump’s nominee to lead the Department of Education, at her confirmation hearing before the HELP Committee. America’s education system needs an overhaul, and I am confident she is the right woman for the job at the right time.

Sharing the #SCSweetTea

A Navy veteran who helped build tiny homes for fellow veterans in Myrtle Beach is now proudly calling one of those homes his own! On Thursday, members of the Blue Star Mothers of Coastal Carolina visited the community to deliver welcome baskets to him and other new residents. With 16 out of the 25 homes now occupied, each basket was filled with essential items to help veterans settle into their new spaces. Read more here!

Washington Examiner: Tim Scott moves to divert Biden IRS funding to bolster border security

By Anna Giaritelli

February 7, 2025

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) is moving to make President Donald Trump’s promise of redirecting Biden-era funds for the IRS to the southern border a reality.

Scott previewed to the Washington Examiner on Thursday his plans to introduce the Securing Our Border Act in an effort to put some punch behind Trump’s Jan. 25 vow to redirect IRS resources to the border.

“President [Joe] Biden’s ill-advised decision to supercharge the IRS while we had a crisis on our southern border couldn’t have been more out-of-touch or unnecessary,” Scott said in a statement to the Washington Examiner. “In just two weeks back in office, President Trump has signaled to the world that he is serious about securing our border and restoring peace and order in our communities. By redirecting these funds, we are taking steps to protect our national sovereignty and keep Americans safe.”
