SIDELINED: A New Orleans high school football coach has been suspended for a year, and the school has appointed an interim successor, because the 2022 team was found to have at least one ineligible player. STAY SOBER: Last year, New Orleans police cited drivers for drunken driving at a rate of 1 every 5 days, a steep plunge from the 2011 rate of 3 daily. But with new attention focused on the non-arrest of a former politician who crashed his car into a tree and emerged disoriented with slurred speech, the Police Department on Thursday announced its first sobriety checkpoint in three months. MAPMAKING: Now that the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled in favor of Black voters who challenged Alabama’s congressional redistricting, opponents of Louisiana’s Republican-drawn political maps are optimistic their state, too, could get new maps with a second majority-Black congressional district.
