Republicans in the Minnesota Senate Thursday proposed a new way of getting expensive insulin to people who can’t afford it. Today on MPR News at 11:30 a.m., Sen. Paul Gazelka of Nisswa will join host Angela Davis to talk about the prospect of a special session to help solve high insulin prices and whether Republicans can win back the House next fall. One of the greatest alpine skiers who hails from Minnesota, Lindsey Vonn will be honored at Buck Hill in Burnsville on Monday, when the ski resort will name its new rope-tow on its race training hill after Vonn, calling it "Kildow's Climb." That's because a young Vonn, then known as Lindsey Kildow, grew up skiing for Minnesota ski coach Erich Sailer at Buck Hill. Read more at Fox 9.

Mayo Clinic has a new international partner, as a Chinese pharma and biotech giant plans to open its first U.S. facility in Rochester, according to the Post Bulletin.

The summery stretch continues today with cloud and sun mix, and high around 84 in the Twin Cities, and a range of upper 70s to mid 80s throughout the state. 11 a.m. – Young people and climate change
Across Minnesota, hundreds of people – mostly young people – are gathering in coordination with the global strike to protest government and business inaction on climate change. A few of them from Bemidji, Morris, Winona and Virginia will join the program and share why they are protesting.

11:30 a.m. – State Sen. Paul Gazelka on insulin prices and a potential special session
Sen. Paul Gazelka of Nisswa and his fellow Republicans held a press conference on Thursday calling for reform around insulin prices. Now, Republican and Democratic leaders need to see if there’s enough common ground for a special session. Gov. Tim Walz is willing to call one, but wants to talk about potential gun control measures as well. Will the parties be able to come together for a special session? And what is Gazelka looking to accomplish in 2020?
