A legacy of service

David Saunders, a WWII veteran from Baker who died recently, became the subject of a media circus when his body was publicly dissected for a paying audience without the family's permission. But the far more powerful story is about how Saunders lived his live: when the call came, he served, over and over again.

On Nov. 6, 1945, Robert J. LeBlanc was discharged from service in WWII on his birthday.

This story tells of LeBlanc's experiences in the war, including how his Cajun French became a crucial asset as the Allies fought through France. LeBlanc went on to become one of Louisiana's most decorated veterans, retiring as a general.
