Popular Concord eatery facing closure after building bought by bank

Soula Maloutas has run the Gas Lighter restaurant in downtown Concord for almost 45 years, with the same original menu and beloved recipes. Located at 204 North Main St., the building is being sold to a bank later this year, leaving an uncertain future for the popular Greek eatery.

Newly vaccinated teachers report side effects

Hundreds of teachers and staff members were vaccinated against COVID-19 Sunday as part of the newest phase of New Hampshire’s inoculation plan, which prioritizes school staff. On Monday, school was canceled in Concord and Hopkinton after many employees called out sick, citing vaccine side effects.

Before a break, Bread and Chocolate was the talk of the town

They began lining up on South Main Street Wednesday, during the early-morning chill. They came with a sweet tooth and sweet memories of Bread and Chocolate. Others had never tried the baked goods there, but they had read the Facebook post Monday, about Bread and Chocolate co-owner Linda Andlinger being admitted to Concord Hospital.

Homeless encampment near downtown Concord cleared out

A homeless encampment sandwiched on a slice of private land between the highway and Storrs Street in Concord has been cleared out and people living there forced to find a new place to stay. Tree crews were called in to cut down brush. Volunteers came to pick up trash. Health workers came to remove used needles and help people relocate. Police were there to make sure everything remained peaceful.

N.H. firm to decommission the only nuclear-powered cruise ship

A New Hampshire company that has disposed of radioactive material for decades is part of a joint venture that recently won a $54 million contract to decommission one of the few non-military nuclear ships ever built.
