Former Mr South Africa Hannes Van Der Walt is back home after undergoing tests to determine the cause of his chest pains.

Speaking to Channel24, Hannes said it was a "normal day" at work when he started to experience chest pains and a "pins and needles" feeling in his left arm.

"I immediately went to the doctor, who referred me to a cardiologist. I received an EKG, and he then booked me for further in-theatre tests that not just confirmed my enlarged aorta of 4.5cm but also showed the blocked vein," he said.

He was later discharged, and has been prescribed chronic heart medication for six months. After the six months, he will undergo further testing to determine if he requires a major operation to repair the aorta.

Hannes, a fitness fanatic who enjoys being outdoors, said he will have to make serious changes to his lifestyle to accommodate his condition but is thankful for the early warning signs.
