The Labor Department's Office of Disability Employment Policy has partnered with Social Policy Research Associates to find ways to make apprenticeships more attainable for people with disabilities. Approximately 22% of Americans have a disability, and unemployment in this group is more than twice the rate of people without disabilities.
Most employers with financial-wellness programs provide them on an ad hoc or pilot basis, according to a survey from the Employee Benefit Research Institute. Poor staff resources, low interest among employees and challenges in quantifying the value of the initiative are among issues employers cite with offering these programs.
Employees can begin to feel psychologically safe when their concerns are met with gratitude instead of hostility, although much more is needed in terms of communication, inclusion and organizational structure, says Amy C. Edmondson, professor at Harvard Business School. Within companies, psychological safety is not constant, and "a lot of that is because of local leadership: the team leader, the branch manager, or whoever leads the local unit," she says.
