Fort Jackson invites community to tour facility

Guests can watch a graduation ceremony, visit a barracks and eat lunch with soldiers during the 5-hour Meet Your Army event on Feb. 13. Registration is required by Feb. 11.  

S.C. union membership rate remains lowest in U.S.

South Carolina had approximately 47,000 union members in 2019, 2.2% of the people employed in the state, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is half a percentage point lower than in 2018, despite an increase in employment.

Developer creates map highlighting area attractions

The full-color, fold-out map shows the locations of 57 locally owned restaurants as well as non-food attractions in West Columbia. Joe Taylor said he highlighted the selections to support area mom-and-pop attractions. 

New app will designate venues, users as ‘Soda City Certified’

The app, created by Khali Gallman, will highlight area venues and businesses and award points to users. For an annual fee, the app will feature participants in 3 categories: events, deals and who’s who. 

Nonprofit accepting scholarship applications 

The Central Carolina Community Foundation is accepting applications for the 2020-2021 school year for more than $500,000 in available scholarships. Since 1998, the nonprofit has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships. 

Museum Roadshow to return on Saturday

Experts in fields ranging from fine art to military artifacts will be on hand at the S.C. State Museum to offer informal, verbal appraisals. Guests are limited to four items per person, and advance tickets are available.
