Amatzia Baram is an MEF Writing Fellow and professor emeritus at the University of Haifa, where he directed the Center for Iraq Studies. Initially a high school biology teacher, he changed paths following the Six-Day War and studied Middle East history, specializing in Iraq. Following Saddam’s 1980 invasion of Iran Mr. Baram worked the Iraq Desk for Israeli military intelligence. (It is said no two camels can meet in Iraq without his knowledge.) He obtained his B.A., M.A., and PhD from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Mr. Baram is the author of Saddam Husayn and Islam (2014).

Elliott Abrams, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, served as special representative for Iran and Venezuela for Donald Trump. Previously he was deputy national security advisor for George W. Bush. His earlier experience included working for Henry Jackson, Daniel Moynihan, and Ronald Reagan. Mr. Abrams is graduate of Harvard College, the London School of Economics, and Harvard Law School.
