The medical executive committee (MEC) and governing board must cooperate to help the medical staff and hospital function effectively together. Some hospitals help foster communication and collaboration by having physicians join the board or board subcommittees. Other hospitals organize routine joint conference committees composed of both MEC and board members.

New York is the newest state to grant nurse practitioners (NP) full practice authority, joining 24 other states and Washington, D.C. Governor Kathy Hochul signed the state budget into law on Saturday, that includes legislation that eliminates the requirement for NPs to have a written practice agreement with a physician and allows them to provide the full scope of services they are educated and clinically trained to provide.

The Supreme Court of Arkansas (the "Court") recently affirmed a lower court's dismissal of a discrimination complaint filed against a hospital by a former employee who was terminated for failing to comply with the hospital's influenza vaccination policy. The terminated employee, Ann Jenkins, sued Mercy Hospital Rogers, a Catholic Church–affiliated medical facility, alleging fraud, wrongful termination, and violation of the Arkansas Civil Rights Act (ACRA).
