Light Up the Lake

Fireworks over Lake Erie light up the night sky on the 4th of July. The dazzling display can be viewed from multiple spots across Cleveland with prime viewing locations in the Flats, Voinovich Park, Whiskey Island, Wendy Park, Edgewater Park and Kirtland Park. Free. A Salute to America at Blossom Music Center

Fireworks will fill the sky (weather-permitting) as the Cleveland Orchestra puts on its annual patriotic concert at Blossom Music Center. Monster Jam at FirstEnergy Stadium

America’s biggest monster truck rally moves outdoors as world-class drivers in ginormous trucks face off in a variety of competitions including racing, skills challenges and freestyle events. Cleveland Shakespeare Festival

Northeast Ohio’s version of Shakespeare in the Park celebrates its 25th season with a production of the Bard’s most famous work, “Hamlet.” Enjoy this classic tragedy of revenge under the night sky and meet the cast afterward at three locations this weekend. Free. DETAILS

Guardians vs. Yankees at Progressive Field

Two nights of fireworks will cap off Guardians vs. Yankees games at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario this weekend. Plus, other fun promotions: on July 1, fans can receive Guardians T-shirts and take advantage of dollar dog night, and on July 2, many fans can get a Larry Doby 1948 Jersey. RubberDucks vs. Curve at Canal Park

Take in some minor league baseball as the Double-A affiliates of the Cleveland Guardians and Pittsburgh Pirates face off in Akron’s beautiful downtown stadium. Captains vs. Lugnuts at Classic Park

Catch the Cleveland Guardians of tomorrow today as the team’s minor league affiliate takes on the Lansing Lugnuts for a three-game series in Eastlake. Cedar Point’s Light Up the Point

Music Box Fireworks Party

With one of the best views of downtown Cleveland’s fireworks, Music Box will capitalize on the July 4th fun with two shows in each of its concert halls. Comedy shows at Hilarities

Catch “Hillbilly Boujee” star Mary Santora at Hilarities where she’ll share stories from her life and interact with the audience. The Beatles: Get Back to Let It Be

‘Only Murders in the Building’

Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez as back as unlikely crime-solving New York City neighbors in Hulu's "Only Murders in the Building." In season two, the amateur sleuths are the talk of the town, or at least their apartment building, when they're linked to the death of the building board's president. In a cruel twist, the trio that began a podcast to unravel a murder are under scrutiny by a rival podcast. Shirley MacLaine and Cara Delevingne are among the high-profile visitors when the series returns Tuesday with two episodes and others out weekly. DETAILS

 

‘Stranger Things’

Our young heroes try to vanquish the villainous Vecna in the closing episodes of the fantasy drama’s fourth season. The final two episodes premiere Friday, July1. The penultimate episode is said to be 85 minutes in length, while the finale is two-and-a-half hours long. DETAILS

 

‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’
In the second animated origin story of the summer, a pre-despicable 12-year-old boy named Gru dreams of becoming the world’s greatest supervillain with some help from his loyal, bumbling yellow sidekicks. ‘More Power’

"Home Improvement" sitcom buddies Tim Allen and Richard Karn reunite for "More Power," a nonfiction series that explores the development and mechanics of tools, from big (bulldozers) to small (batteries). Each half-hour episode focuses on one implement, which gets dissected in Allen's workshop with help from April Wilkerson of YouTube do-it-yourself fame. Karn explains the tool's history, followed by field testing and a segment in which a skilled creator is challenged to devise innovative and "crazy new builds." The series debuts this week on History Channel. DETAILS

 

‘The Princess’

The biggest new movie streaming this week is "The Princess," coming to Hulu on Friday, July 1, starring Joey King as a royal who refuses to marry her intended (with good reason, as he's a sociopath). Still, the act of defiance gets her kidnapped and imprisoned while her betrothed tries to overthrow the kingdom. Le-Van Kiet directed the film, which also stars Dominic Cooper and Olga Kurylenko. ‘GoodFellas,’ ‘Boogie Nights’ & more

Netflix is adding an army of titles starting Friday, July 1, including several films featuring recently departed actors. Ray Liotta's star-making turn as aspiring mobster Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese's "GoodFellas" is one of them. Liotta, who died last month at age 67, had to fight for the role in that cast of heavyweights like Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci. The intensity of his performance and his memorable narration made him stand out even so. Also arriving on Netflix on Friday, July 1, are "The Talented Mr. Ripley" and "Boogie Nights," featuring two memorable performances by Philip Baker Hall, who died earlier this month at 90, as a dogged detective and an unsentimental producer. Barenaked Ladies at Jacobs Pavilion

Attention, ‘90s music fans! 'Machine Gun Kelly’s Life in Pink'

Hulu’s new documentary “Machine Gun Kelly’s Life in Pink” has finally arrived. MGK’s star has risen to its biggest point ever. Now, fans and haters can see just how he went from struggling rapper in Cleveland to global rocker/movie star in Hulu’s new film. Directed by Sam Cahill, “Life in Pink” is the closest look yet at MGK’s professional and personal life including his struggles with drugs and depression, his relationship with his father who recently passed away, his rise to fame and the toll it’s taken on him. Backstreet Boys

The popular 1990s boy band has been feeling the love from longtime fans with its DNA World Tour, which began during May of 2019 and drew nearly a million fans during its first 95 shows, before being postponed into this year by the Covid-19 pandemic. The tour, being staged to promotethe 2019 "DNA" album, stops July 6 at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls. Howie talks about the album, the band's enduring connection with fans and more. DETAILS

Imagine Dragons

Imagine Dragons are back with the second half of their two-album "Mercury" project. "Act 1" came out in 2021 and was raw, confessional and searing, with the songs "Follow You," "Wrecked" and "Enemy." The new set — "Act 2" — drops Friday, July 1, and promises another 18 tunes, including the upbeat, anthemic "Sharks" and "Bones." In a video for the latter song, Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds plays a stock trader — decked out in '80s-inspired clothing and huge hair — who soon is joined by dancing zombies in homage to the 1983 "Thriller" video. Reynolds has said the song is about the fragility of life. DETAILS

LILIEAE at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

This Cleveland-based rock band with an alt edge takes the stage on the Union Home Mortgage Plaza outside the Rock Hall to perform songs off their latest EP “Run! Run! Candlelight Open Air: A Tribute to Queen and more
