Rage Against the Dying of the Light
President Donald Trump on Friday morning raged against Republican Rep. Thomas Massie for threatening to block the coronavirus relief bill before it came up for a vote on the House floor, calling him a “third rate grandstander” who was just looking for “publicity.” “He can’t stop it, only delay, which is both dangerous… & costly,” Trump tweeted, in part. “Workers & small businesses need money now in order to survive. Virus wasn’t their fault. It is ‘HELL’ dealing with the Dems, had to give up some stupid things in order to get the ‘big picture’ done. 90% GREAT! WIN BACK HOUSE, but throw Massie out of Republican Party!”
Conservatives and libertarians responded by defending Massie’s honor. The historic $2 trillion relief package passed Friday afternoon. ‘You Will Shed a Tear Because You Will Remember the Lives Lost’ New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has become a steadying voice amid a truly terrifying national health crisis, mixing in wacky family anecdotes with much-needed daily press conference updates on the alarming number of New York cases. But Friday he reached back for something more, seeking to inspire National Guard members with a stirring speech about their fight with an “insidious beast.” “And ten years from now, you’ll be talking about today, your children or your grandchildren, and you will shed a tear because you will remember the lives lost. And you remember the faces and you will remember the names, and you will remember how hard we worked, and that we still lost loved ones.” Do yourself a favor and watch the whole thing. AOC MAD Given the chance to speak before the vote on the massive coronavirus stimulus bill, members of Congress spoke up, many loudly, but perhaps none more seriously than Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who battered the bill, supported by Senate majority Republicans, as well as all Senate Democrats, calling it “one of the largest corporate bailouts” in history which provides just “crumbs for our families” during the crisis. “I represent one of the hardest-hit communities in the hardest-hit city in this country. Queens, New York. Thirteen dead in a night in Elmhurst Hospital alone,” she boomed.
“What did the Senate majority fight for?” she asked. “One of the largest corporate bailouts with as few strings as possible in American history. Shameful!”
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson the First Global Leader to Contract Coronavirus
Boris Johnson, who initially was criticized for not taking the coronavirus outbreak seriously before changing course over the last week, announced via Twitter that he has tested positive for Covid-19.
He revealed that he developed mild symptoms over the past 24 hours and was self-isolating, but will “continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus.” |
