Exclusive: Republicans, pressing forward with convention amid coronavirus, bring on medical adviser
Amid global scrutiny over China’s handling of the coronavirus outbreak, House Republicans on Thursday will launch a “China Task Force” to coordinate a strategy against the geopolitical threat from Beijing, sources confirmed to Fox News.
Nearly 3.17 million Americans filed for unemployment last week, the Labor Department reported on Thursday, deepening the economic pain inflicted by the coronavirus pandemic on the U.S. workforce. Meanwhile, Neiman Marcus Group Inc. filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, becoming the latest large retailer to seek a court restructuring during the pandemic. Earlier this week, J.Crew Group Inc. filed for bankruptcy.
Still, there may be optimism in the quest for a vaccine. The Food and Drug Administration has approved Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine candidate, allowing it to move to Phase II and bringing it one step closer to a potential treatment for the devastating disease.
If you’re flying to Los Angeles soon, make sure you have a face covering. Starting on Monday, any passengers or visitors to the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will need to wear a face covering in all terminals and will be prohibited from removing it unless consuming food or drink.
Also in Los Angeles, the city council has voted to identify hotels that are refusing to take in the homeless during the coronavirus pandemic and said they could possibly be “commandeered.” Only 1,582 people have been placed in hotels, far short of the city’s goal of housing 15,000, FOX 11 in Los Angeles reported.
