White House seeks $850 billion stimulus package to offset coronavirus damage to the economy

As President Trump, Vice President Pence and members of the Coronavirus Task Force team held a press briefing Tuesday urging Americans to follow their recommended guidelines of coping with the coronavirus crisis and to look out for seniors, White House officials and lawmakers started focusing on more remedies for the economy.

White House officials and congressional lawmakers have signaled they will attempt to introduce a third coronavirus spending package worth hundreds of billions of dollars to boost an ailing U.S. economy ravaged by the outbreak. More specifically, the White House is pushing an $850 billion stimulus, largely in the form of tax relief measures, Fox News has learned.

In addition, Kentucky Gov. Andrew Beshear and Secretary of State Michael G. Adams on Monday postponed the state's primary elections, originally were scheduled for May 19, to June 23 amid concerns about the pandemic. (Voters in Arizona, Florida and Illinois are heading to the polls Tuesday as scheduled.)

Meanwhile, Stop & Shop became the latest grocery store chain to set aside special hours for customers over 60 years old in a bid to protect those most vulnerable to the virus. Nevada reported its first death related to coronavirus while Spain’s death toll has nearly doubled in a 24-hour period. A new report by an epidemic modeling group at Imperial College London paints a grim picture on how the numbers of infected could grow in the U.S. and the U.K. if efforts are not made to slow the spread of the virus.
