Wind down with after-dark jazzThe Drawing Room… After Dark is a twice-weekly happening (Tuesdays and Thursdays), in which talented jazz outfits fill the Drawing Room at Brown's Hotel in Mayfair with sweet sounds that are free to enjoy. This week, catch Alex Garnett's tribute to tenor sax giant Dexter Gordon (11 March) and the Sara Oschlag Quartet (13 March). SubscribedWait out rush hour at a concertOn Wednesday evening, stop by St John's Church in Waterloo for an hour-long concert performed by the Sinfonia Smith Square Orchestra. They tackle works by Felix Mendelssohn, Errollyn Wallen and Jimi Hendrix in an eclectic programme, with a glass of wine included in your £2 ticket. £2, 12 March. Take yourself to a lunchtime concertAlternatively, fill your lunchtimes with live music on the cheap. On Wednesday, Dulwich Picture Gallery continues its lunchtime concert series, with students from local school JAGS performing in Christ's Chapel. Then on Friday, Live at Lunch is back at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. It's a chance to see a free performance featuring Royal Ballet and Opera and guest artists. You won't know who's performing until you arrive, adding an air of mystery, but make sure you get there in plenty of time as these shows can be popular and space is on a first come, first served basis. View a replica of a Japanese teahouseStep into the world of Japanese master carpenters at Japan House on Kensington High Street, and learn about the tools and craftsmanship behind Japan's temples and shrines. The beautiful buildings are functional too, designed to withstand snow, wind and earthquakes. The centrepiece of the Craft of Carpentry: Drawing Life from Japan's Forests exhibition is a life-size reconstruction of the Sa-an teahouse in the Daitoku-ji temple in Kyoto. Free, 12 March-6 July. Join a community Iftar feastWhether you observe Ramadan or not, everyone's welcome at the Iftar feast at Grand Junction in Paddington. Tuck into a meal of Middle Eastern food to break the Ramadan fast, and make new friends as you dine. The event is nature-themed, and you'll receive an urban nature reserve starter kit to take home and grow your own bee-friendly herbs. Free, 13 March. Learn about the great legacy of an East End youth clubFor over 70 years, some of the poorest, most underprivileged children in the country were given the opportunity to learn vital life skills and forge life-long friendships, at the East End's Brady Clubs. On Friday, a new exhibition, The Brady Club – A Legacy for the Future launches at Tower Hamlets Local History Library & Archives in Mile End, featuring the opportunity to see Brady Club Holiday albums, listen to music from the period, dress up and sit in a Brady Club 'canteen' while reading youth-generated Club magazines of the day. Free, 14 March-21 June. Catch the finale of Nowruz FestivalHighgate's Lauderdale House has been celebrating Nowruz (Persian New Year) for a couple of weeks now, with free exhibitions on display. The main celebrations happen this week, and all are free to attend, including a Nowruz Bazaar with arts and crafts stalls, free talks and a family fun day. Free, until 16 March. Celebrate St Patrick's Day at London's free parade and festivalLondon goes green on Sunday for the huge, free St Patrick's Day parade and festival. The procession begins at Hyde Park Corner at 12pm, travelling through Piccadilly, St James's Street, Pall Mall, Cockspur Street and Whitehall, culminating in Trafalgar Square, where there's lots going on in the form of live music, dancing and other free entertainment.
