A shot at 80s tomorrow?  Tonight will have mostly clear skies with lows in the upper 40s to upper 50s across the state. Tomorrow will be warmer with sunny skies and highs in the mid-70s to mid-80s.

High school football, volleyball OK'd for fall seasons. The Minnesota State High School League voted to restart volleyball and football next Monday for seasons at least through November. Volleyball will have an 11-week season while football is expected to have an 8-week season.

Although medical experts remain concerned about close-contact activities, high school sports officials have said early indications in other high school activities aren’t showing noticeably greater risk of transmission.

Free COVID-19 testing kicks off around Minnesota this week. The first of 10 saliva testing centers will open at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center this Wednesday. Testing is free and will not require an ID or insurance, says Dan Huff, state assistant health commissioner.

That’s in addition to a push of conventional testing that will start on Wednesday in Pine City, Waseca and Grand Rapids, to continue over the next four weeks. Testing at those sites will also be free and preregistration is encouraged.

New cases remain high as testing volume increases. State health officials reported 937 new confirmed COVID-19 cases Monday, part of a recent rise in the case count that has officials concerned. Three of the top six days for reported new cases have been since Friday.

Added tests partly explain the new cases, but the percent of people testing positive is also back up above 5 percent after a dip late last week. You can get more of the latest news, in just a few minutes, via the Minnesota Today podcast.
