Marvel at Marble Arch's history on a free, time-hopping walking tour! Few monuments are so iconic that they have an entire area of London named after them, but did you know that Marble Arch wasn't always in Marble Arch? This summer, as English Heritage embark on its painstaking restoration, you're invited to find out all about the landmark's history — from its design to its original location, to how it came to be next to Hyde Park — on a free walk led by none other than its architect, John Nash. Well, sort of... Marble Arch London BID has teamed up with Westminster Council to present a series of character-led walking tours that shine a spotlight on the landmark's history, as well as that of the local area. Follow Marble Arch's esteemed architect John Nash on an hour-long central London adventure to get the inside scoop on his Romanesque triumph, hear tales of executions at the nearby Tyburn Tree, and learn all about the colourful past of Speakers' Corner. Discover Marble Arch tours take place on selected Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays between 18 July and 19 August. They're part of the council's Inside Out programme of free live performances, exhibitions, installations and other pop-up activities, so it won't cost you a penny.
