The RT-QuIC assay is currently being used as a diagnosis in the clinical setting for CJD and has the potential to be a valuable screening tool for researchers looking at prions diseases of animals such as CWD, BSE and scrapie.

This webcast we will detail the basics of optimizing sensitivity and specificity in the RT-QuIC assay with BMG plate readers to detect prions from diverse sources.
During the webcast you will learn:
  • How to perform RT-QuIC assays using BMG LABTECH microplate readers
  • Reaction conditions that affect sensitivity and specificity
  • Data display options for maximum impact
  • Maximizing sensitivity in the RT-QuIC assay

Speakers
Dr. Davin M. Henderson, Colorado State University
Davin Henderson has 5 years of experience working with the RT-QuIC assay and over 15 years of experience in protein biochemistry. He is an author on 10 manuscripts utilizing the RT-QuIC assay and has pioneered a quantitative approach to determine the levels of prion amyloid in tissue sources and excreta

Dr. Carl Peters, BMG LABTECH
Dr. Carl Peters is a microplate reader Senior Application Scientist with BMG LABTECH. He obtained a Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from Northwestern University while studying Protein Kinase C signaling. He also has a B.S. in Biology from Hastings College. Prior to BMG LABTECH, he was an adjunct or assistant professor of Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at several different universities.

Moderator: Dr. Jayshan Carpen, Springer Nature
Jayshan received his PhD in neurogenetics from the University of Surrey, UK. His doctoral thesis focused on identifying polymorphisms associated with diurnal preference and circadian sleep disorders. Jayshan worked as an events coordinator at the Royal Institution of Great Britain before moving to his current role in 2013 for Springer Nature.
