French Quarter killings: It seems like violent crime is dropping everywhere except the French Quarter, despite it being the most heavily surveilled and policed square mile in New Orleans, if not the South. Seven people have been killed in the French Quarter this year, which represents at least a 17-year high. Missy Wilkinson explains what could behind the baffling spike. CCC glow up: Tests of a new lighting system on the Crescent City Connection are offering some sporadic glimpses of what the iconic twin spans over the Mississippi River will look like once the multi-million-dollar project is complete. 'Rampant abuse': A new report from immigration advocacy groups released Monday said there was “rampant abuse” within U.S. immigration detention facilities located in Louisiana, where migrants say they were fed cockroach-infested food, deprived of adequate hygiene products and suffered sexual abuse.
