We're almost halfway into the 1st ever Rumpus Member Drive, and whew does being in the middle feel tough. We're 127 Members strong and 25% toward our 500 Member goal. We are so grateful to the readers and authors who joined so far. You're making a difference to our financial stability and our morale.
We've been in enough therapy to ask for what we need. If just 3% of the people who signed up for our newsletter (that's you!) joined, we'd hit our 500 Member goal no problem.
If you're asking, but doesn't The Rumpus make money from ads? Why do you need Members? We do make a little money from ads (and more from our Book Clubs and Letters in the Mail from authors subscribers---y'all have truly kept The Rumpus alive until now). However, we limit our ads per page, we DO NOT accept sponsored content, we don't allow Google ads to populate our site, and we DO NOT accept ad buys from sketchy folks. So, because we have ethics (and promised ourselves in middle school we'd never sell out), ad $ covers less than 10% of our expenses.
So we need you to show us that you value the attention and platform we've given to authors for the past 13 years. We can do better than struggle to break even, if readers support us.
