Escape London this summer on one of these dreamy day trips

No one adores London more than us (the clue's in the name), but even we get the urge to venture further afield sometimes. That's why our archive offers a wealth of day trip inspiration — quaint villages, fairy tale castles, and bustling seaside towns, all just an hour or two from the capital.

History buff? Get thee to Hever Castle (pictured above) for Tudor tales and topiary galore, or head to the half-timbered heaven that is Rye, a teeny Sussex town bursting with maritime heritage. Craving that bracing sea air? Check out the pastel beach huts at Essex's Walton-on-the-Naze,  head to the quintessentially British resort of Clacton-on-Sea, or go for a stroll on the RIBA award-winning Hastings pier.

Fancy something a bit different? From an 18th-century crystal grotto to a whole island dedicated to teapots, we've got plenty of options for those who like their day trips with a generous helping of quirkiness. Click the link below for even more inspiration — from individual museums and tourist attractions to whole towns and cities that are well worth a visit.
