From Grand Valley to Death Valley

Brian Kelly's search for another defensive tackle to add to LSU's roster took him back to his long-ago coaching roots.

Kelly and LSU secured a commitment Wednesday from Jay'viar Suggs of Grand Valley State. The NCAA Division II Michigan school is where Kelly began his head coaching career in 1991. Wilson Alexander has the details on this new, potentially key Tiger.

Suggs' potential impact on LSU's football team is still months away from being known. The LSU baseball team opens a three-game series Thursday against Ole Miss that will have a direct impact on its postseason hopes. Here's the information on the season-ending series. We've also got a look ahead to the Tigers' 2025 schedule.

Former LSU women's basketball star Angel Reese made her WNBA debut Wednesday night for the Chicago Sky. Here's how she did.

LSU gymnast Alyona Shchennikova had to be a cheerleader because of a preseason Achilles injury as her Tiger teammates went on to win the 2024 NCAA championship. After missing the entire campaign, she plans to return in 2025 for a sixth season. She joins fellow seniors Haleigh Bryant and Sierra Ballard in coming back for an extra season.

The LSU softball team is gearing up to host an NCAA regional at Tiger Park this weekend. William Weathers has a feature on freshman Sierra Daniel and how she's become a key part of the Tigers' success.

Former Tiger basketball star Tyrus Thomas is back ... in the neighborhood. He's now on the staff at BRCC.

Finally, the LSU men's golf team had a lot to overcome this season with the unexpected resignation in October of long-time coach Chuck Winstead. But his assistant, now interim coach Andrew Nelson, pulled the Tigers together and Wednesday they punched their first ticket in five years to the NCAA Championships with a strong showing in their own NCAA regional at the University Club.

Whew. That's a lot of stuff for you to chew over. But let's digest because there will be another LSU newsletter chocked full of Tiger news tomorrow.

Until then,

Scott Rabalais
