Dive deeper into Docklands history with London's quirkiest museum

The Brunel Museum is back, bringing the incredible tale of the Thames Tunnel to London culture vultures every Saturday and Sunday, 11am-5pm, from its unique site in Rotherhithe. This is a story of unwavering ambition, grueling subterranean labour, and two legendary engineers: Sir Marc Brunel and his son Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Head to Sir Marc Brunel's original Engine House — once part of the passageway's infrastructure, now a Scheduled Ancient Monument — to learn why the Thames Tunnel was dubbed the "eighth wonder of the world". Discover how Isambard Kingdom Brunel's first engineering project was almost his last, and enjoy a frisson of danger yourself with a 16-metre descent into the Thames Tunnel shaft alongside a museum guide.

General admission to The Brunel Museum costs £6, or £4 for kids. Family tickets are even better value, costing just a tenner for up to two adults and two children. The museum has ample green space for picnics and even boasts its own pop-up cocktail bar, so you can really make a day of it.
