Dear John,

Every day the Chronicle brings you news from our staff of outstanding journalists – plus a daily digest of news about philanthropy that has appeared in a wide array of publications.

You can tell by following our links that philanthropy has increasingly gotten more attention as journalists realize how important nonprofits are.

But we still have a long way to go until philanthropy gets the consistent and sophisticated media spotlight it deserves. That’s why I hope you’ll join me in a special discussion on that topic next week – and why I am writing you now to encourage you to share your ideas ahead of the conversation.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Alliance magazine enlisted the Chronicle to join it in sponsoring a live discussion about the media and philanthropy. If you don’t know Alliance, it’s a rich source of independent news, insight, and opinion about global philanthropy.

Charles Keidan, the publication’s editor, will join me, along with Glenn Gamboa, the philanthropy editor at Associated Press, who is a key player in our partnership to help the public better understand philanthropy.

Also on the panel: Cyndi Suarez, editor in chief of Nonprofit Quarterly, and Teddy Schleifer, founding partner of Puck, where he covers billionaires – including their charitable giving.

We’ll talk about the key issues we’re seeing in philanthropy in addition to sharing our thoughts about how philanthropy journalism can improve.

Sign up now to join us free on November 17 at 2 PM Eastern – and send any thoughts you have about what we should discuss to me at editormail@philanthropy.com. Or feel free to share them with me on Twitter (@stacypalmer).

I hope I’ll see you online next week.
