Good evening,

Good evening,

Don’t have the muscle for AirTrunk but want to get into data centres? Cool your jets – here’s a smaller-scale operation up for grabs.

Street Talk understands Japanese multinational Fujitsu has called in Sayers Advisory to auction off its six data centres across NSW, Victoria, Queensland and WA.

The centres, located in and around major capital cities, have a total capacity of 24.7 megawatts, according to a teaser seen by Street Talk. This puts them in line with Global Data Centre Group’s 50 per cent stake in France-based Etix Everywhere, which had a total capacity of 17.3 megawatts and was divested for $175 million earlier this year – or $350 million on a whole basis. However, Etix operates edge data centres outside the major French cities while Fujitsu’s six facilities are strategically located.

Interested parties were told Fujitsu has 7.9 megawatts sold capacity and has 100 megawatts-plus expansion capacity from existing infrastructure and future site development. The operator has over 130 existing customers on the books, including the big four banks, major governmental departments and technology firms and is busy growing its blue-chip customer base.

Smaller-scale data centres have been hot property in recent years. In March, UK-headquartered Amber Infrastructure – a specialist infrastructure fund manager and prolific mid-market dealmaker in Australia – tapped Grant Samuel to fire up an auction for iseek. The data centre platform spans seven data centres and sees a pathway to tripling capacity from 16.7 megawatts to 60 megawatts. The owners of iseek are understood to be chasing a sale price of about $400 million.

How’s this for extreme coincidence? The new chairman at ASX-listed shipbuilder Austal also happens to be the chairman of Joe Hockey’s advisory firm Bondi Partners.

The sharemarket fell for a second day as investors dumped bonds and stocks on worries the Reserve Bank is set to lift interest rates within months.
