What is full-day kindergarten?

Exactly what it sounds like — programs where kindergartners attend school for a full school day, rather than the traditional half-day option.

What are the benefits of full-day kindergarten?

There are educational, social and nutritional benefits to full-day kindergarten programs. They also tend to make things easier for working parents and those with older elementary school-age children, because all the children have the same school schedule.

What are the drawbacks of full-day kindergarten?

When Wasatch School District adopted a full-day kindergarten program in 2018, there was pushback from some parents who thought the program usurped their parental rights.

The district still allowed families to choose half-day attendance. More and more parents have enrolled their children in the full-day program ever since.

How do polls rank Mike Lee against Evan McMullin for Senate?

The latest Deseret News/Hinckley Institute of Politics survey asked Utah voters who they would support in the general election, assuming Sen. Mike Lee wins the Republican primary election.

Here's what the survey found:

43% would vote for Lee
24% are undecided
19% would support independent candidate Evan McMullin
11% would vote for Democrat candidate Kael Weston
3% would vote for someone else

What does it mean for the election?

“The big unknown is what will happen with the independent candidate and where Democrats will fall on their candidate," said Jason Perry, director of the University of Utah’s Hinckley Institute of Politics. "That is the big question that we’ll be watching."
