Funding delay could disrupt launch of La.'s new private-school tuition program

School choice funding: Louisiana families who rely on state grants to send their children to private schools could be left in the lurch if the Legislature doesn't quickly approve funding for a new school-choice program, top education officials warned Tuesday. Hung jury: At a recent trial inside the 19th Judicial District Courthouse, state prosecutors said Brian Alexander Lavergne shot his ex-lover and her new boyfriend with a shotgun at point blank range as they slept in their bed.

But after listening to several days of testimony, a panel of Baton Rouge jurors was deadlocked and the trial ended with a hung jury, according to 19th JDC officials. Read the full story from courts reporter Matt Bruce.
