Future of Baton Rouge library funding unclear after Metro Council fails to pass tax renewal

So, what happened at Metro Council Wednesday? 

The fate of future funding for East Baton Rouge Parish's library system remains an unknown, after the Metro Council failed to pass a millage renewal Wednesday.

The impasse came after Mayor-President Sid Edwards pitched a plan to use funds dedicated for Baton Rouge's library system to help raise salaries for Baton Rouge Police Department officers. Read the full story here.  


Extradition battle begins: Louisiana's top prosecutor has started the protracted process to have indicted New York doctor Margaret Carpenter extradited here to face criminal charges for allegedly prescribing abortion pills online to a pregnant Port Allen teenager.

In likely the first case of its kind nationwide, Carpenter, 55, was indicted by a West Baton Rouge grand jury last month on a felony count of criminal abortion by means of abortion-inducing drugs. Read the latest.
