2022 is off to an intense start. We’re already hard at work fighting disinformation ahead of the 2022 midterm elections — and using every tool we have to protect the free and open internet, and make it accessible to all.
How big we can dream and how hard we can go in pursuit of our goals depends on you. As the COO of Free Press, I’d like to take you behind the scenes and show you all the exciting campaigns we’re working on — and explain why setting up a monthly donation makes such a difference to the health and ambitions of this organization.
When you donate monthly — along with the hundreds of others who chip in a little bit each month — it means we can count on that steady income and start planning and budgeting for it. As we look ahead, we’re trying to decide how big we can set our ambitions for 2022. Monthly donations are one of the critical decision-making factors that we are looking at. Our goals for 2022 include: - Getting Gigi Sohn confirmed as the fifth commissioner to the FCC to ensure we can bring back regulations that protect Net Neutrality.
- Fighting disinformation targeting Black and Brown communities specifically with harmful information about voting and health.
- Closing the digital divide and ensuring everyone has access to broadband.
- Holding Facebook and others accountable for their role in the spread of online hate and disinformation ahead of the 2022 elections and during a deadly pandemic.
These are all major organizing campaigns, and their breadth and effectiveness are dependent on how many organizers we can pay, how many ads we can buy and how many events we can host. When you set up a monthly donation, we use that to plan for the year and determine how big we can go.
