Right now data brokers have access to unprecedented amounts of information about us — what we do, where we go, and with whom is in the hands of tech companies and brokers that are all too willing to sell this data to the highest bidder. This includes law-enforcement agencies — and they don’t even need a warrant. By exploiting a legal loophole, authorities can purchase all kinds of information about you, from location data to your browsing and search history. As states across the country are rapidly outlawing abortion, we have to stop private companies from selling information to law enforcement — like the location data of people visiting abortion clinics. Here’s the good news: The Fourth Amendment Is Not For Sale Act has bipartisan support and would close this loophole and make it illegal for private data brokers to sell our information to law enforcement. Tell your members of Congress to pass the Fourth Amendment Is Not For Sale Act to close this loophole and protect our data privacy. Agencies ranging from the IRS and the Drug Enforcement Administration to the FBI and Customs and Border Protection have all alleged that they can lawfully avoid the constitutional requirement for probable-cause warrants by simply buying our personal information from commercial data brokers.
