That’s why we’re fighting so hard to hold right-wing media conglomerates like Sinclair accountable for gutting local newsrooms and broadcasting propaganda. It’s also why we’re pushing Congress to reject industry-written bills like the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act, which would bail out Big Media and make the local-journalism crisis even worse. Free Press Action established a groundbreaking new model for sustainable local journalism through the Civic Info Bill, which created the New Jersey Civic Information Consortium. The consortium has given out nearly $2.5 million in grants since it launched in 2021 and received $4 million from the state to support local news-and-information initiatives in 2023.
