While the nonprofit still employs many of the usual fundraising tactics, there's one important difference with its event—it's largely virtual.

| "We don't have any physical event costs to maintain," says director Michael Kinney. "There's no course like there would be at a 5k race. There are no balloons."
The campaign has become popular because it identified a unique audience that wasn't being reached with other programs.
"It's a niche that wanted to give back," says Kinney.
