SmartBreak: Question of the Day
POLL QUESTION: Rajveer Meena has the Guinness record for reciting how many digits of pi? Check your answer here.
When it comes to mental well-being, you must “be where your feet are,” says Derin McMains, director of mental performance at cybersecurity company ReliaQuest, in today's HR Leader story. McMains and ReliaQuest reject the notion of work-life balance, touting instead the idea of work-life presence -- basically, leaving “work at work and home at home.” I can be better at this. Work often bleeds into my evenings and weekends and sometimes, my vacations. Last year when I was in Hawaii, I wound up working during the first two days of my visit to the chagrin and annoyance of my mother. “Kanoelani, are you working? I thought you were on vacation!” she scolded and then gave me an exasperated sigh. This isn’t good. When I let those lines between work and home blur, I’m not fully engaged in either space. My mind struggles to focus and home projects get pushed to the back burner. Before long, I’m mentally fatigued and stress eating Oreos. So, talk to me. What do you do to help make sure you’re present “where your feet are”? I’d love to hear from you, especially if you work remotely. Let me know! And if you enjoy this brief, tell others so they can benefit also.
