Sixteen years after the TransWest Express High Voltage transmission line was proposed, it's on track to be completed by 2027. The renewable energy game-changer will bring 20,000 gigawatt hours of energy every year and run for 732 miles through Wyoming, Colorado, Utah and Nevada.
U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm said the transmission line "will play a major role in our nation’s energy security, ensuring that home-grown clean energy can form the backbone of our electric grid as we rebuild a stronger, more resilient transmission system.”
In addition to lengthy permitting approval and environmental review processes, TransWest Express also needed to negotiate with private landowners whose land the line would run through.
According to TransWest Express spokeswoman Kara Choquette, it wasn't possible for the route to avoid privately owned land.
