| | Sunday, October 24, 2021 | The good news about Week 7 is that it has mostly avoided featuring any bad news. We were already so short-handed this week with injuries on top of the six teams on bye, but luckily there don't seem to have been many serious injuries added to the crop Sunday. | That doesn't mean there weren't any injuries of note, of course -- Josh Jacobs (chest) and Miles Sanders (ankle) were both forced out of the Raiders and Eagles game in the most prominent examples. However, Patrick Mahomes cleared the concussion protocol after his fourth quarter scare, so he looks good, and Davante Adams, Jaylen Waddle, Calvin Ridley, Kyler Murray, and Mike Evans all returned after brief absences, which is an awful lot of good news, all things considered. | Among those who didn't return, Jacobs and Sanders are obviously the most prominent. Jacobs' injury could open up a significant opportunity for Kenyan Drake, though with the Raiders on bye in Week 8, Drake may not end up being a particularly high priority on waivers unless Jacobs' injury is likely to cost him significant time -- and it doesn't sound like it will. That makes Kenneth Gainwell the likely top target, as I wrote in my early look at the Week 8 waiver wire Sunday evening. We'll want to keep a close eye on Sanders' status in the next few days. | Additionally, we had Zach Wilson leave with what looks like it could be a pretty worrisome knee injury -- he told reporters after the game it was a PCL injury and he'll have an MRI Monday. We'll want to keep an eye on that one, because, for as bad as Wilson has been as a rookie, it's hard to imagine fourth-year journeyman Mike White being any better for this offense. Malcolm Brown (quad) and Jonnu Smith (shoulder) were also unable to return. | All in all, not a bad week. Given how things looked coming into Week 7, that's a blessing. In tomorrow's newsletter, we'll have winners and losers from Sunday's games plus a recap of the top storylines from around the NFL. For now, here's an early look at the top waiver-wire targets for Week 8. | | | | | Here's who I'm looking at coming out of Sunday's action: | | Top targets: | - Kenneth Gainwell, RB, PHI 46%
- Boston Scott, RB, PHI 2%
- Rashod Bateman, WR, BAL 49%
- Russell Gage, WR, ATL 16%
- Brandon Bolden, RB, NE 7%
