It's sugar cookie time! We'll make hundreds of them in our store on Saturday. We'll give some of them to kids to decorate along with candies and a little cup of frosting. We'll give lots to Moms and Dads.
Sugar cookies can be much more than pretty. You can spice them, color them, add dried fruit or nuts, or maybe chocolate chips or raspberry bits.
And then of course, frost them. Let the frosting carry most of the flavor--flavors tend to bake out in the heat of the oven. Add a little meringue powder to your frosting so that it is firmer. If you have a really good frosting that you love, sugar cookies is a great way to show it off.
Jen, in our test kitchen, prefers buttercream frosting. I like to "doctor up" powdered cream icing.
