TODAY'S TOP STORY Keep it classy When a company screws up and gets slapped with a class-action lawsuit, they have one last line of defense: Hoping you don’t find out about it in time to file a claim. Not on my watch, folks. They messed up, and if you were wronged, you should get paid. I pulled together a list of open class-action lawsuits and sorted them by their claim deadline so you can file ASAP! 📲 iPhone audio issues: If you owned an Apple iPhone 7 or 7 Plus between Sept. 16, 2016, and Jan. 3, 2023, and reported audio issues, defective audio chips were to blame. File a claim by Monday, June 3. (That’s tomorrow!) Overcharged for oranges? Walmart will pay millions to settle a case alleging they overcharged for groceries sold by weight, like meat, seafood and bagged citrus. If you bought any of these items from Walmart between Oct. 19, 2018, and Jan. 19, 2024, submit a claim by Wednesday, June 5. 🥖 Bread-y or not, here I crumb: Panera Bread Co. is settling after a suit claimed the company misrepresented delivery fees and menu item prices. If you placed an order for delivery using the Panera app or website between Oct. 1, 2020, and Aug. 31, 2021, you could be eligible for a payment. The claim deadline is June 10. Private eyes: After allegations Minnesota’s Star Tribune Media Co. violated privacy rules by sharing digital subscribers’ video viewing history data with Meta, they’re settling for $2.9 million. Star Tribune website subscribers who watched videos on their website and have (or had) a Facebook account should file. Claims are due July 5. Burning rubber: This class-action lawsuit alleges some Kia vehicles are defective, causing engine problems like stalling, failure and, yep, “possible engine fire.” Lease or buy one? Select 2010-2020 Kia makes and models may be eligible for reimbursement of bills like repairs, and cash compensation or warranty extension. File a claim here by July 8. 💸 More for Hyundai owners: Remember the news about Kias and Hyundais getting stolen more than other cars? A bunch of cheaper makes and models are also missing the security tech that stops the cars from starting without the right key. Thieves started sharing how-to videos on social media, and now, Hyundai is settling to the tune of $145 million. You have plenty of time to file a claim — up to Jan. 11, 2025. Not to juice that Walmart blurb, but orange you glad I told you about these class-action lawsuits? I crack myself up. |
DEALS OF THE DAY Prep your home for emergencies Let's face it: Preparing for emergencies isn't exactly a blast, but boy, will you be thankful if you ever need to use that gear. It's all about peace of mind. |
WEB WATERCOOLER 🚢 Shipwrecked: A Kentucky family of six’s $15,000 Carnival Cruise vacation was a no-go just two days before setting sail. Why? The vacation-ready mom posted the cruise itinerary to Facebook — including the booking number. Some troll then used that number to make a Carnival account and cancel their penthouse suite reservation. PSA: Post your pics only after your vacation. Byte me: Google says it’s fixed its AI Overviews in search after it told folks to put glue on pizza and eat rocks. Their defense? Ask nonsense questions, get nonsense answers — basically, “It’s not our fault the AI made crap up.” Google’s seriously getting its butt kicked in this AI race. 👓 What’s a Spacetop? It’s a new kind of laptop that uses AR glasses for the screen. Think the Apple Vision Pro, but way less “Robocop”-feeling. The $1,700 Spacetop G1 has a 100-inch virtual screen, a Qualcomm processor (typically used in cellphones), an accompanying keyboard and 128GB of storage. See it in action on my site! “Honey, I’m helping NASA!” Say that when your significant other wants you to help clean the garage. NASA is looking for people to snap a few pics of clouds and upload them to the GLOBE Observer app (iOS or Android). Your photos help NASA predict weather patterns. Neat! 💩 Explosive TikTok trend: Influencers are promoting drinking castor oil to detox, lose weight and fight serious illnesses, including cancer. You’ll get one thing, guaranteed … Remember, laughter is the best medicine — unless you have diarrhea. Stop letting Big Tech decide what emails you see: StartMail* is my pick for privacy-first email. SUNDAY TO-DO LIST Watch: I interviewed a woman who makes $25 million a year on eBay. She started by selling her sons’ old video games. Wow, right?! Stretch: Your neck and shoulders. If you sit at a desk all week, here’s a great stretching sequence. Make: Some story dice! Get some wooden dice ($10 for 100 on Amazon). Great for the kiddos, but you can also spice ‘em up for a wine night with friends. 🌱 Grow: A plant … from another plant. You can “propagate” a whole new succulent from a dropped leaf. There’s even a subreddit on “proplifting.” Treat: Yourself to some bougie deodorant. This one’s free from aluminum, parabens, sulfates and phthalates and smells amazing. ⚡️ Check: Everywhere you turn, it’s a buck or more a month.
