Wondering what CLER site visitors are looking for?

Every 18 to 24 months, a CLER visit is scheduled by the ACGME with only 10 days’ notice. Upon their arrival, CLER site visitors will begin to assess where your institution is at currently to provide feedback on growth opportunities. The five key questions they will focus on include:

  1. What does the clinical learning environment look like?
  2. What does resident learning look like at your institution? This includes how the faculty play a role.
  3. How engaged within your institution are the residents?
  4. How are GME and your quality and patient safety/continuous improvement offices intertwined?
  5. What has your institution identified as target areas for improvement and what are you doing to improve upon the
While this may seem like a lot of information to prepare for on a ten-day turnaround, much of this work can be done far in advance of your CLER visit.

In The Continuous Guide to GME Accreditation, readers will learn foundational knowledge about CLER to successfully tackle the above questions and more, including definitions, background, and steps to prepare for an on-site visit.
