Employers often use resume scanning systems to weed through applications they receive from online job posts, which saves time but can result in the automatic rejection of qualified candidates. To ensure your resume is read by a person, submit your resume in a text-based format, include keywords from the job posting, and demonstrate increasing levels of responsibility through your past job titles, writes Sue Shellenbarger.

Ignore resume writing myths
Resumes should always tell employers why they should hire you, rather than fit common myths like page limits or time restraints on job experience, says career coach Robert Hellman. Describe jobs that fit your new job so employers don't have to spend much time reading and use relevant experience regardless of what year it's from.

Best practices for recruitment in 2020
To get ready for 2020, businesses should be evaluating their business plan and the recruitment environment to anticipate hiring needs. A recruitment plan should involve revitalizing the business's career website and onboarding and pick up on hiring trends like social media, texting and conversational recruiting to increase candidate engagement, according to Jobvite CEO Aman Brar.

The Landscape
Survey: 63% of employers offer a workplace wellness program
A Transamerica Center for Health Studies survey of almost 1,400 employer decision-makers showed 65% viewed the mental health resources their company provided as adequate, 25% said health care benefits were offered to part-time employees, and 55% of those offering health care benefits had at least three health plans available. The survey showed 63% of respondents reported having a workplace wellness program, and 68% in that group said they had high employee participation.

Robots are creating new jobs while filling undesirable ones
Many headlines scare workers into thinking robots will be taking jobs away from people, but Cleveland's Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network says that's not true. Rather than replacing the jobs, robots are doing the repetitive tasks that people don't want while reshaping other jobs to give workers the opportunity to run the machines.

When Baltimore Ravens defensive back Marcus Peters made the play that sealed the victory for his team last weekend, he jumped into the stands to celebrate with some fans and drank a beer. The NFL fined Peters $14,000, so Bud Light seized the moment and announced it would donate $14,000 to a charity of Peters' choice.
