This is your opportunity to hear Lawyer and Senior Workplace Relations Consultant David Wemyss from the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry explain the legal requirements of mandatory vaccinations and their implications for businesses.

The session will cover:

  • What mandatory vaccination is
  • What the current mandatory vaccination orders are 
  • How to implement a direction under these orders in the workplace
  • Circumstances when this direction is lawful and reasonable in the context of a dismissal of an employee

State Government restrictions will change at 6pm, Friday 29 October when 80% of eligible Victorians are expected to be fully vaccinated against COVID (eg. have received a double dose of a COVID-19 Vaccine).

From this Friday, subject to individual industry vaccination requirements for staff and customers, the following restrictions apply:

  • Retail can open with a density quotient of 1 person per 4sqm
  • Hairdressing, Beauty and Personal care can open with a density quotient of 1 person per 4sqm 
  • Restaurants, cafes and food courts can operate indoors with a density quotient of 1 person per 4sqm for seated service and outdoors with a density quotient of 1 person per 2sqm (500 patron cap) 
  • Gyms can open with a density quotient of 1 person per 4sqm
  • Masks are only required inside
  • Work from home if you can, but you can go to work if fully vaccinated.

New Posters and Resources

Vaccination Requirements for Workers 


All businesses are advised to review their worker vaccination requirements.  If your staff are not fully vaccinated you may not be able to open as per Victoria's roadmap.  For more information on worker vaccination requirements click here


Checking Customers' COVID-19 Digital Certificate 


Businesses must ensure that customers check in correctly using the Service Victoria QR Code and verify the customers' vaccination status by viewing the displayed green tick. 

Customers without a smart phone will need to present a hardcopy of their vaccination certificate.
