A day of contrasts

Ghost Bites makes for interesting reading today. For example, Nampak has given an update on the rights offer required to keep the place going. Transpaco also operates in the packaging sector, yet the company is rewarding shareholders with great returns rather than asking for more money.

In the mining space, Sibanye-Stillwater upset the market once again by releasing a set of numbers that were a disappointment. It feels like nothing can go right for the company at the moment. Even endangered flowers in the US are hurting its plans! Although playing at a different point in the mining value chain, Master Drilling is singing a very different tune to Sibanye with really strong results.

Then we have Super Group, with results that certainly live up to the name. The company has added its name to the list of industrials companies that have grown sharply this year.

Finally, Thungela has concluded the acquisition in Australia.

Along with the usual assortment of smaller stories and director dealings in Little Bites, get all you need with a single click in Ghost Bites here>>>

The rand seemed to run out of puff

The rand started the day on the front foot and then fell away against the dollar, despite a weak JOLTS number in the US that gave the dollar a tough day against other major currencies. Is the rand running out of momentum, currently at around the R18.50 level?

Gold has jumped to $1,934 after the data out of the US.

TreasuryONE highlights that liquidity is low this week because it is the last week of holidays in Europe and the US. This can lead to erratic moves, a dangerous situation with PCE data and US non-farm payrolls out this week.

With that, I wish you a great day!

Ghost Bites (Master Drilling | Nampak | Sibanye-Stillwater | Super Group | Thungela | Transpaco)

It's a day of extremes. Master Drilling is doing well in the mining industry and Sibanye isn't. Nampak needs money from shareholders whereas Transpaco is rewarding shareholders. Super Group released great numbers. Thungela closed the Aussie deal.

Is it a film? Is it a very long advert? Do shareholders really care either way? And perhaps most of all, is Mattel actually going to make more money thanks to Barbie?

Ghost Global: the business of nostalgia

Guess what? This episode of Ghost Wrap could be filled with only good news from local companies! All of them have grown HEPS strongly. Enjoy the positivity, brought to you by Mazars.

Brian McMillan joined me on this show to explain structured products and the Investec USD S&P 500 Autocall in detail, with a potential return up to 8.4% p.a. and downside protection.

Disney really has lost the plot when it comes to new content, with the theme parks now also under pressure. At Yum! Brands, simply executing on a proven formula is working. Get the latest insights on both companies in this podcast.
